AMBITIOUS BREW – THE STORY OF AMERICAN BEER
When a wave of German immigrants arrived in the middle of the nineteenth century, they re-created the pleasures of the “Biergarten” they had left behind, and invented a new American-style lager beer. In her best-selling book, author Maureen Ogle remembers a time when America counted 4131 breweries. She presents the stories of the German brewers and the youngest crop of today´s micro breweries. This event includes a lecture, food, and a tasting of three beers.

KLEIST TODAY
To this day, German poet and playwright Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811) continues to inspire contemporary German culture. 200 years after his death, influential theater critic and scholar Bernd Sucher explores the classic poet’s continuing impact on German theater.

ACHIM HEUKEMES: COAST TO COAST AND BACK
In June, German extreme athlete Achim Heukemes began a unique cross-country trip: He rode his bike from New York City to San Diego, CA, averaging 150 miles a day, then turned around to run back to New York, averaging 65 miles per day. At over 3,200 miles each way, his adventure presents one of the greatest feats in sports history. Heukemes dedicated the project to the victims of 9/11 and will tell you his story in this exclusive event that includes a Q&A session.

THE WORLD AFTER NINE ELEVEN
Tobias Endler’s study After 9/11 presents 17 interviews with America's leading political thinkers. Renowned experts such as James Lindsay, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Francis Fukuyama, and Noam Chomsky discuss the nation’s foreign policy in the post-9/11 world and comment on their own role in US: What is America's foreign policy in the post-9/11 world? What should it be? How to prevent another terrorist attack and restore America's damaged reputation? This expert roundtable discussion is co-sponsored by DDAD, the German Academic Exchange Program and the Heidelberg University Association. CABARET: BERLIN NOW
For this one-night program, German Forum is hosting two brilliant Cabaret artists directly from Berlin: Annika Krump, acclaimed Accordionist and Chanteuse International, and Felicitas Madl, Actress and Dancer. NEW YORK IS WHERE WE ARE
A comprehensive retrospective of the work of Sabine von Oettingen, one of the former GDR’s most extravagant underground-performers and founding member of the fashion performance group „CCD – Chic, Charmant und Dauerhaft“ (chic, charming and durable). This documentary photo by Jürgen Hohmuth will be accompanied by a fashion show in the spectacular historic courtyard.
